The Alchemy of Intimacy: Feeding the Higher Nature

How we engage in sexual activity will directly affect the rest of our lives. Makes sense, no? After all, we are the result of sexual activity.

Anyway, if we use possessiveness in sex—if we use our or our partner’s bodies for pleasure only, as in taking the other for our own pleasure—we are only feeding the lower nature inside of us. Some call it “the beast,” and indeed, in my opinion, it is a very fitting name.

The Choice: Lower vs. Higher Nature

If the same activity is used to be really present, to purify, and to honestly look at oneself and each other—to move with sincerity, patience, and awareness—that then fuels the higher nature of our being. I’m no expert on the subject, but this much I find important.

  • Feeding the lower nature brings more conflict into life.
  • Conflicts, if not resolved or healed, feed the lower nature again…
  • Ultimately, that escalates to wars, rape, etc. The whole circle continues.

Inherited Trauma and “Born in Sin”

And some of it we are born with—inherited from our parents, who got it from their parents, and so on. Some of it we get through abuses in life. The heavier the abuse, the more it gets into us. WWII left quite a mark on our ancestors, and we inherited some of it.

That’s what “born in sin” really means, in my opinion. It’s not something personal, as we are conditioned to believe, but the negativity of the world—the beast, or trauma, if you will. It does not matter from which perspective you understand it, just that you do.

The Path to Healing and Purification

As one purifies, heals, and surrenders to one’s real/higher nature… as one takes steps in that direction, one stops feeding the negativity. The negative might rebel a bit, as it wants to be fed. But if one has proper guidance (inner/outer), one steadily moves out of it.

Key Pillars for the Journey:

  • Listening to one’s conscience and intuition is essential.
  • Many spiritual traditions work—if not all of them—provided proper understanding is there.
  • Healing works. Yogic purification practices work.

Best is guidance and contact with someone who is out of the mess himself. If one is ready, that person will give abundantly, whether the former will notice or not.
